The Grisly Cartoon Film Conclusion That Stays With Fans
Among every adult-oriented animated films I have personally viewed, nothing has remained with me quite like the terror-laced finale of the viscerally violent as well as highly provocative 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.
In 2015’s, the Spain-based writer-director developed a grim, somber , often savage world that included a few small , desolate hints of hope.
While The Unicorn Wars appears as it stemmed from a desire to push the medium even more, the filmmaker explained that it was rather an attempt to communicate a global, cross-cultural theme about “the shared root of all wars.”
That message is communicated through a band of colorful pastel bears , openly modeled after a famous line of lovable figures.
Maturing in a community centered on aggression as well as the war machine, many of these animals are obsessed with slaughtering unicorns, because of a sacred text that tells the bears they were once masters of the woodland, before the horned beings expelled them.
Others haven’t fully bought into the brainwashing, , choose to try out drugs or mate in the forest.
In contrast to their cuddly counterparts, these vivid animals display genitals , definite sex drives.
For a particular particularly cruel, skeptical animal, the bear named Bluey, the war against unicorns becomes a path to power — and especially to supremacy over his gentler, kinder brother Tubby.
The character is a bully , an obvious sociopath , and as fear overcomes his group and claims his comrades individually, he seizes increasingly control personally, via progressively gory, harmful methods.
Simultaneously, these mythical beings are experiencing their own nightmare, as a growing, harmful creature in their habitat.
“In the early stages, it feels like a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker said. “Yet it becomes a more dramatic and melancholic movie. And ultimately, it becomes a terrifying movie.”
The Unicorn Wars begins resembling one of the more playful films from a renowned animator, that uncover a naughty glee in allowing cartoon characters swear, engage in violence, or engage sexually.
Then it becomes closer to a darker film from the same creator, featuring progressively graphic violence , a noticeable link to the real horror of battle.
Ultimately, it’s a full-on Grand Guignol carnage.
The terror that makes the film a perfect Halloween movie kicks in much sooner than that description suggests.
The Unicorn Wars is ideal for the hardcore fans of gore, for fans of graphic films who desire to see a movie they have not viewed until now, and who can handle a narrative that offers unflinching brutality.
See it in a dimly lit space without any distractions, and that ending will crawl under your skin and stay with you.
