Supporters Demand Custody of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the pop star are demanding that a individual who breached a barricade and grabbed the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared clip depicts the Australian man bypassing camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the cast proceeded down a yellow carpet flanked by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being led away of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "let go after being taken in", though official papers indicated that he was due to attend court on the next day. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
History of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a performance. His Instagram profile includes videos of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney show in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the city last year.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is obviously a legal violation," stated an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Fans Express Concern Over the Star's Safety
Many followers criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented a further comment on Instagram.
A number of supporters also questioned security officers at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while some requested digital services to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In clips shared widely, Grande looked surprised when she was approached by the individual. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Numerous of attendees had gathered in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it started.
The movie, to be launched on November 21, is the second of a two-film version of the popular stage show Wicked, which centers on the surprising bond between two distinct characters.
The show itself is a spin-off of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and scored 10 Academy Award nods, winning several for outstanding attire and artistic direction.
