Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for concerns to be raised about his future following a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve games, marking the team's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from management,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell like this with performances this poor.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to the top, show everyone again what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
