A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country battling entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the central business district on a Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities reported the forty-year-old entertainer was confronted by a trio of assailants, one of whom opened fire on him before escaping on foot.

The purpose behind the incident has not been established and no arrests have been made, as per the official statement.

Details of the Attack

Authorities indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a premises close to the city center landmark.

He had devoted time at the building managing the setup of security systems, which had been reportedly taken over by unidentified individuals, as per local media.

"The report indicates the man was confronted by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before fleeing the scene on foot," authorities stated.

CCTV footage reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocks and clad in what looked like a protective services outfit firing shots on Stock before running away.

The DJ tried to run away after he was shot but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.

Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and no items were stolen during the assault.

Important clues, like bullet casings, were found at the location.

Authorities have requested eyewitnesses who may have witnessed the attack to assist with the investigation.

"Evidence suggests they walked a long distance after the attack, and officers have been attempting to locate them to find their whereabouts," remarked an authority figure.
