Israelis have come together across the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted attack on October 7th, 2023, as discussions advanced in the neighboring country over a resolution to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The attack led to over 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as hostages. It was the uniquely most lethal day for the Jewish community since the World War II.

Israel answered by beginning a armed campaign in Gaza which has killed over 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its numbers are regarded as accurate by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"The bloodthirsty opponents have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," the leader added on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "achieve all the objectives of the war: the release of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas government and the promise that Gaza will never again present a threat to Israel".

Commemorative Ceremonies Across Israel

The government authorities delayed formal commemorations until 16 October - after the conclusion of the religious holiday season - but events still occurred around the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the loved ones of people who lost their lives in the Hamas incident was held in the coastal city. Put together by the victims' relatives, it was aired across Israeli broadcast stations.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was respected throughout the country.

Ceasefire Meetings in Egypt

Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas negotiating teams convened in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of the Egyptian city for a continuing round of mediated discussions to discuss the terms of the agreement.

A high-ranking delegate involved in the discussions said that an evening round of indirect talks started at 7 PM local time.

The official stated the day's discussions concluded without concrete outcomes, amid disagreements over the recommended Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not restart fighting after the opening period of the agreement.

He noted that the talks are "challenging and have yet to produce any significant progress," but mentioned that mediators are striving to close the differences between the conflicting groups.

Critical Issues in Talks

  • A lasting ceasefire
  • The trade of the captives still held by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The removal of troops from Gaza
  • Plans for assistance provision
  • Future management of the region

Civilian Reaction

In the city's Hostages Square earlier, 29-year-old Hagar - whose family member lived through the attack on the gathering, where 378 people were killed and dozens more were abducted by Hamas gunmen - told: "Nowhere seems like home any longer and until all the hostages return no one will be secure."

"Once we see all home once more, we can breathe once more. Then we can start to recover," she continued.

Near the prime minister's official dwelling in the capital, people gathered to demonstrate their support for the loved ones of the captives. Israel states nearly fifty continue in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are thought to be surviving.

Demonstrator a participant remarked: "We need do every compromise required for the captives to be released. But we truly desire guarantees that we will be secure."

Research now consistently show that around seventy percent of Israeli citizens desire the hostilities to finish in exchange for the release of the hostages.

Gaza Situation

At the location of the gathering, mourners came together to honor the dead.

From the site, the noise of aerial bombardments and shelling could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where observers reported the severe Israeli bombardment continued.

In the urban center, bombardments were noted in the morning of Tuesday in the west side district, area and zone districts and in the east side district of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the northwestern area.

"Once the evening arrives, the anxiety appears with it," relocated Gaza City resident a local woman, whose teenage son was killed by an Israeli aerial attack last year, explained.

"Me and my three children are fearful of the air strikes. During nighttime we are resting together, clinging, notably my little child who rests his face on me throughout the night."

"Continuously we check the news to see what happened. And I'm worried that this ceasefire will not be achieved and that the conflict will resume to us."

Medical Situation

The healthcare center in the urban area said it had received the bodies of several people by the afternoon, including a trio killed in an Israeli attack in the south part area.

Nasser hospital in the southern urban center of Khan Younis indicated additional dead people had been delivered. One of them was died by Israeli troops while looking for assistance to the south region, health workers stated.

The region's health ministry reported a significant number of the {territ
