Eurovision Used to Be a Campy Joy – However It Has Evolved Into a Calculated Tool to Whitewash War.
A recent initialism came to light several months after the start of Israel’s bombardment of Gaza. Labeled WCNSF, it stands for “Injured child with no living relatives”. This term is found only in Gaza, according to doctors like child health specialists. Normally, it is unusual for medical staff to care for a child who has seen the death of their complete family. However, there has been absolutely nothing ordinary about the genocide in Gaza, where complete genealogies have been eradicated and the number of child amputees is greater than that of any other region in the world. Nothing normal in scores of doctors coming back from a devastated terrain with accounts of children being systematically aimed at.
An Unimaginable Crisis Despite a Announced Cessation of Hostilities
The Gaza Strip continues to be hell on earth. Essential medical supplies are being blocked those in need, and groups like Amnesty International have stated that violations are continuing. Ignore the report that a toddler was reportedly killed in Gaza on a recent Sunday. Pay no mind to the evidence that attacks by settlers and systematic expulsions in the West Bank have escalated. Overlook the situation that international journalists are still prevented from unfettered access in Gaza. None of this, evidently, should be seen as a barrier of Eurovision’s much-touted ethos of unity.
The Show Goes On While Ignoring Staggering Tragedy
The contest reaches its seventieth anniversary next year – roughly two times the current lifespan of an individual in Gaza now. The broadcast will air, but it will find it impossible to reclaim the pure, unadulterated fun it was formerly known for. An institution that was originally built on harmony has now become a transparent instrument to sanitize military aggression.
